What this calculator reports
Select a Gregorian civil date to see traditional year, month, and day Gan-Zhi labels. Each result pairs a Heavenly Stem with an Earthly Branch and adds pinyin, yin-yang polarity, element, and zodiac animal. The month pillar follows the solar-term method used by the calendar library, while the day label is calculated for the selected civil date.
The calculation runs locally in the browser. The date is not submitted to NexaCurrent, written to an account, or added to a public result URL. The supported range is deliberately limited to 1900–2100 while the wider calendar system is being validated against additional historical sources.
Why two year pillars are shown
Lunar New Year and Li Chun are different boundaries. Popular Chinese zodiac references generally change the year animal at Lunar New Year. Four Pillars traditions often use Li Chun, the Start of Spring solar term, for the annual pillar. A date between those events can therefore receive two different but methodologically explainable year labels.
The result panel displays both conventions at all times and adds a prominent notice when they disagree. This is more useful than presenting one answer as universally correct. The intended method depends on whether you are reading a festival calendar, a popular zodiac reference, or a particular BaZi tradition.
Limits of a date-only calculation
This tool is not a complete birth-chart calculator. It uses the selected Gregorian date at noon to avoid a Zi-hour rollover and does not adjust for birth time, longitude, historical daylight-saving rules, true solar time, or school-specific conventions. Those details can affect a Four Pillars chart and will belong in the dedicated BaZi tool.
