The four traditional trine groups
The twelve zodiac animals are commonly arranged into four groups of three: Rat–Dragon–Monkey, Ox–Snake–Rooster, Tiger–Horse–Dog, and Rabbit–Goat–Pig. Select any animal to reveal its complete group. The lookup is fixed and does not depend on a name, gender, precise birth time, or hidden scoring model.
These groups are often described as san he, or three harmonies, in popular compatibility material. The label identifies a traditional pattern among Earthly Branches. It does not show that three strangers will share values, communicate well, or want the same relationship. Annual animals are broad calendar signs assigned to millions of people.
Year boundaries still matter
A person born in January or early February should not infer an animal from the Gregorian year alone. Popular zodiac calendars change at Lunar New Year, while some Four Pillars methods use Li Chun. The Gan-Zhi date calculator on this site displays both conventions so a boundary date can be identified instead of silently assigned.
Even after the annual branch is established, a complete Four Pillars chart contains month, day, and hour branches as well. This page deliberately stays at the annual-animal level because that is the promise of the lookup. It avoids implying that adding more undisclosed birth data would transform a traditional grouping into scientific compatibility evidence.
Use the table as cultural vocabulary
The trine table is useful when reading festival guides, popular horoscopes, decorative motifs, or introductory Chinese astrology material. It can also be a playful conversation prompt. It should not be used to approve or reject a partner, employee, tenant, medical provider, or business associate. Real compatibility develops through conduct, communication, circumstances, and consent.
Only the selected animal exists in component state and nothing is uploaded. No result is permanently tied to a person. If a traditional label conflicts with direct evidence about someone, trust the evidence. The tool explains a classification faithfully while preserving each person’s individuality and ability to choose. It also avoids ranking the four trines, because the traditional table defines groups rather than a ladder from best to worst. Every animal belongs to exactly one displayed group.
