Apple's September 27 Cycle Software Releases

Apple on Monday shipped iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, and watchOS 27, marking the company's annual operating-system refresh across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. The same-day cycle is headlined by the rollout of a new Siri AI on devices that support Apple Intelligence, with the assistant available as a standalone app and integrated into system features across platforms. Apple framed the release as the central moment of its 2026 software year, positioning the new assistant as the principal new feature of iOS 27.

Siri AI as a Dedicated App and System-Wide Feature

Siri AI launches as a beta in English, with additional language support in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish scheduled for October. The dedicated Siri AI app syncs conversations across a user's devices and extends the assistant into existing workflows through features such as Write with Siri. Apple said Siri AI "can understand personal context across messages, emails, photos, and more, to help users find what they need in the moment" and can answer questions tied to on-screen content or pull up-to-date information from the web. On Apple Intelligence-capable iPhones, iPads, and Macs, the new Siri is also wired into the Camera app as an upgrade to Visual Intelligence.

Platform-Specific Changes Across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, and watchOS 27

Alongside the Siri AI rollout, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate introduce additional intelligent features including Spatial Reframing, Extend, an upgraded Clean Up tool in Photos, and an improved Image Playground experience. Apple is also publishing the new macOS as "macOS Golden Gate," replacing the prior macOS Tahoe branding that had been referenced in earlier developer builds. Older Macs and users not ready to move to Golden Gate can instead install macOS Tahoe 26.7 or macOS Sequoia 15.8, both of which include security fixes that mirror those in the new release.

Regional Limits: EU Users Excluded From Siri AI

Customers in the European Union will not have access to the new Siri AI on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, with Apple previously attributing the gap to the EU's Digital Markets Act. The exclusion is the most notable regional carve-out in this release cycle, since the rest of the Apple Intelligence feature set is otherwise available wherever Apple ships its 2026 hardware and software lineup.

Security and Continuity Updates for Users on Prior OS Versions

For users who remain on iOS 26, Apple separately issued iOS 26.7 on the same day, providing the default update path that appears in Software Update for devices not yet moved to iOS 27. The companion macOS Tahoe 26.7 and macOS Sequoia 15.8 releases carry the same security fixes that ship in macOS Golden Gate, giving administrators and consumers a continuity option without forcing an immediate jump to the new macOS.

Apple TV+ Premieres 'Slow Horses' Season 6 at TIFF

Elsewhere in Apple's same-day activity, Apple TV+ held the world premiere of "Slow Horses" Season 6 at the Toronto International Film Festival Lightbox Theater on Monday. The screening brought star Gary Oldman and the cast together ahead of the series' September 16 streaming debut on Apple TV+, extending the company's push into festival-led launches for its flagship originals.
