Acer puts Panther Lake inside a 1.19 kg Swift Edge 16

Acer has begun international sales of its refreshed 16-inch Swift Edge 16 laptop, built around Intel's Panther Lake architecture. The machine weighs 1.19 kg despite its 16-inch form factor and ships with a 65 Wh battery, a 120 Hz OLED panel at 1800p with 340 nits peak brightness, and a choice of three Panther Lake processors: the Core Ultra 5 325, the Core Ultra 7 355, or the Core Ultra 9 386H. All three chips share the same 4-core Xe3 integrated GPU, though Acer's own benchmarks indicate the Core Ultra 9 386H is the most powerful of the trio.

Pricing and configurations vary sharply by region

Hong Kong pricing starts at HKD 10,998 (around $1,401) for a Core Ultra 5 325 with 16 GB of RAM and climbs to HKD 11,998 ($1,529) for the Core Ultra 7 355 with 16 GB of RAM, or HKD 12,998 ($1,656) for a Core Ultra 5 325 paired with 32 GB of RAM. In the United Arab Emirates, Acer lists the top configuration at AED 8,546 (around $2,302), inclusive of 5% VAT, with a Core Ultra 9 386H, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The US receives a Core Ultra 9 386H SKU with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD for $1,549.

Panther Lake begins reaching retail after a CES preview

The Swift Edge 16 had previously been offered with AMD Hawk Point and Intel Lunar Lake processors and was first shown at CES in January. Acer had already brought other Panther Lake and Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus machines to market this quarter, including the Helios Neo 16 gaming laptop with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU and an updated Aspire 18 sold across Europe and the UAE. The Swift Go 16 is also listed as a Panther Lake model.

Intel positions Nova Lake desktop chips ahead of server parts

Separately, Intel's Robert Hallock told Tom's Hardware that the upcoming Nova Lake generation will launch on consumer desktop processors before server variants, confirming the company's traditional consumer-first cadence. The desktop parts are expected to carry the Core Ultra 400 series branding, replacing the current Core Ultra 200 lineup, and will require a new LGA-1954 socket. Intel previously said Nova Lake would arrive in 2026 but has not yet given a firm launch window.

Competitive context and what's still unknown

Intel's consumer-first decision is notable because rival AMD's upcoming Zen 6 architecture is reportedly slated to debut in server parts before reaching consumer Ryzen chips, a reversal of AMD's usual pattern. Leaks suggest higher-end Nova Lake-S chips could offer substantially more cores and cache than the Core Ultra 200 series, though Intel has not confirmed specific core counts, pricing or an exact release date.
