Liza Unity Operations Paused After Laundry-Room Fire
ExxonMobil said the heat detectors aboard the Liza Unity floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit were activated in the laundry room of the living quarters, indicating a small fire that was quickly extinguished. To comply with safety regulations, oil and gas production operations "were suspended as part of the established safety response and will resume following completion of the necessary checks," the company said in a statement reported by Bloomberg. ExxonMobil added that all personnel aboard the vessel are safe and accounted for.
Crude Offloading and Tanker Transfer Also Halted
The transfer of produced and stored oil into a tanker moored near the FPSO was suspended alongside production to comply with safety regulations, according to ExxonMobil's statement. The company did not say when the checks would be completed or provide a restart timeline in the materials reviewed.
Profile of the Suspended Vessel
Liza Unity started production in February 2022 and is the second of four FPSOs operated by ExxonMobil offshore Guyana at the Stabroek block. According to Guyana's Natural Resources Ministry, the vessel reported average oil production of just below 250,000 barrels per day in 2025, with produced associated gas reinjected into the reservoir. Separately, a fifth FPSO, Errea Wittu, arrived in Guyana the same weekend, according to the same report.

ExxonMobil has not disclosed a restart date for Liza Unity, and the next verifiable milestone will be the company's confirmation that safety checks have been completed and production at the FPSO has resumed.
