On the Thursday night episode of "The Daily Show," correspondent Desi Lydic criticized President Donald Trump's performance at a Georgia rally held on Wednesday for U.S. Senate candidate Mike Collins, saying the 80-year-old leader appears to have lost some of his trademark showmanship after a decade of campaign events. Lydic played a montage of rally attendees yawning and appearing to ignore the president as he spoke, remarking, "after 10 years of Trump rallies, you can kinda tell that he's not moving crowds like he used to." She singled out one child on his phone during the speech, telling him to stop playing Roblox while the president discussed affordability. Lydic also needled Trump over his description of a healthcare proposal as "our Great Healthcare Plan," quipping, "Such a lazy name. That's like making a daily show and calling it 'The Daily Show.'"
Jon Stewart Spots "Backup Trump" Near Air Force One
During the July 20 episode of "The Daily Show," host Jon Stewart paused coverage of Trump's post-World Cup final appearance to question a man in a navy suit and blue tie seen walking near the president on the tarmac after Spain defeated Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Stewart repeatedly asked, "Who the f**k is this guy?" and floated the theory that the figure was a "back-up Trump," noting the man's apparent similar build and movement. The New York Post reported the man appears to be Viktor Knavs, Melania Trump's father, who attended the final with the president and first lady, though the camera angle made the resemblance more striking. The moment also echoed long-running, baseless internet claims that Melania used a body double during the president's first term.
Stewart Targets Trump's World Cup Trophy-Stage Presence
Stewart also used the segment to mock Trump for remaining onstage during Spain's trophy celebration after the final, drawing criticism for appearing alongside the winning squad before departing. Stewart said, "It's for the players. Why must everything be tainted by the overinflated ego of Cankles Muldoon?" The comment came during the same July 20 broadcast that featured the Air Force One lookalike bit.
White House Pushes Back on Stewart
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded to Stewart's remarks in a statement to The Independent, calling the host "a talentless hack who clearly suffers from a severe and debilitating disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain and ruined his life." The exchange underscores the ongoing back-and-forth between the late-night program and the administration over Trump's public appearances.
