The look on the red carpet

Ayo Edebiri attended the 70th BFI London Film Festival in London wearing a two-tone ensemble pulled from the Chanel Spring/Summer 2026 haute couture collection, designed by creative director Matthieu Blazy. Reporting from the October 12 festival appearance identifies the look as Look 35 from the collection.

From the front, the silhouette was streamlined: a cream, sleeveless tank cut with tiers of fringe along the bottom and a contrasting black trim, layered over an inky midi pencil skirt. Around back, the bottom of the top curved outward into a dramatic bustle that added a winged effect described by fashion coverage as mythological in proportion.
Styling and accessories
Stylist Danielle Goldberg kept accessories minimal, pairing the set with plain black sandal heels and adding red-and-green pendant earrings, also from Chanel, for a small pop of color. The fringe-and-bustle combination was positioned within a recent couture trend of exaggerated back volumes, alongside earlier examples cited by fashion editors.
Context on Chanel's creative direction
Blazy began his tenure as Chanel's creative director in December 2024 and has been credited by fashion editors with introducing whimsy and panache into the maison's traditional ladylike design language. Edebiri's appearance on the festival circuit continued a run of red-carpet styling choices tied to that new Chanel direction.
