Release date set for Christmas 2027
Amazon MGM Studios has set December 25, 2027, as the theatrical release date for *Lizard Music*, the live-action and CGI hybrid starring Dwayne Johnson and directed by Benny Safdie. The date was reported on October 19, 2026, and remains a scheduled release rather than an occurrence.
The film reunites Johnson and Safdie following *The Smashing Machine*, released in 2025. Safdie adapted the screenplay from Daniel Pinkwater’s novel of the same name.
Fantasy adventure and cast
*Lizard Music* follows a boy who discovers a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing otherworldly music. While seeking answers, he encounters the eccentric Chicken Man, played by Johnson, and embarks on an adventure involving a hidden society.
Johnson plays a septuagenarian character with extensive makeup and prosthetics. The cast also includes Theo Clark Leber, Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, Arya Parvathi, Regina Hall, Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, Rachel McAdams, Andrew Dice Clay and David Krumholtz.
Producers and competing holiday releases
Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt are producing through United Artists, while Benny Safdie, Johnson and David Koplan are producing through Out for the Count Productions, Seven Bucks Productions and Magnetic Fields Entertainment, respectively.
Amazon MGM also has Ron Howard’s *Alone at Dawn* scheduled for December 25, 2027. A Warner Bros. comedy directed by Nancy Meyers was also reported as slated for the same date.
