Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Cameron Winter At Carnegie Hall' Sets World Premiere At New York Film Festival

The New York Film Festival has added the world premiere of Paul Thomas Anderson's concert film "Cameron Winter At Carnegie Hall" to the Spotlight section of its 64th edition. The film documents Geese frontman Cameron Winter's sold-out solo run at Carnegie Hall on December 11, 2025, a stripped-down set in which he accompanied himself on a Steinway grand. The festival will debut the picture on October 1 at Alice Tully Hall on 35mm, with the festival running September 25 through October 12.

How Anderson captured the show

Anderson, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind titles including "Licorice Pizza," was on site at the December concert with a crew that included collaborator Benny Safdie. The team shot the performance on 16mm and 35mm, producing a concert movie that mixes intimate close-ups of Winter with wide views of the venue. Distribution is set through Janus Films and Criterion.

NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim framed the project as a rare pairing of artist and filmmaker, calling it "quite simply, a concert movie for the ages." Festival programmers described Winter's Carnegie Hall appearance as a revelation, writing that his "soaring vibrato resonat[ed] throughout a theater known for its legendary acoustics" and cementing his status as "a one-of-a-kind cabaret art-pop balladeer."

Winter is also featured in Jonathan Glazer's "Joy of Joys," an NYFF64 Spotlight selection that will have its own world premiere at the festival, putting the musician in two Spotlight titles in the same edition.
