Hindi Comedy and International Action Lead the Streaming Slate

Indian streaming platforms released a fresh wave of films and series beginning September 4, anchored by the comedy sequel ‘Dhamaal 4’ and the Cold War action comedy ‘Mayday’. ‘Dhamaal 4’, now available on Netflix, reunites Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi for another installment of the franchise’s treasure-hunt storyline. Apple TV’s ‘Mayday’ stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh as an American pilot stranded behind enemy lines after a surveillance mission goes wrong during the Cold War. The first weekend releases were reported by two independent outlets, which together highlighted the range of titles arriving across major subscription platforms.
Regional Productions Join the Line-Up
Alongside the Hindi and international titles, regional streaming offerings also expanded over the weekend. Amazon Prime Video added ‘Jagamae Sangeetham’, a musical romance centered on a young man from a traditional Carnatic music family whose relationship with a pop singer brings long-hidden family conflicts and artistic differences to the surface. JioHotstar introduced the Tamil courtroom drama ‘The Court’, which follows a young lawyer with a speech impairment who finds herself facing her experienced lawyer father in a major legal dispute. SonyLIV began streaming the Malayalam psychological thriller ‘Unmadham’, about a police officer and aspiring screenwriter who revisits an unsolved case, leading him into increasingly disturbing territory. Coverage described the slate as underscoring the increasingly broad range of content available to Indian streaming audiences, with mainstream Hindi entertainment appearing alongside regional language productions and international titles.
Platforms, Genres and Audience Reaction
Both reports framed the September 4 drop as a cross-genre weekend spanning comedy, action, romance, courtroom drama, and psychological thriller. The two outlets listed Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, JioHotstar, and SonyLIV as the platforms hosting the new arrivals, and both identified ‘Dhamaal 4’ and ‘Jagamae Sangeetham’ among the most discussed titles. One of the outlets also pointed to ‘GDN’, a thriller it described as promising twists at every turn, while the other focused on ‘Dhamaal 4’ and ‘Mayday’ as the marquee additions. Viewership figures, ratings, box-office comparisons, or platform performance metrics for any of the titles were not included in either report, and the evidence ledger does not provide release-window schedules, regional rollouts, or subsequent viewing data. The two independent reports also differ in emphasis: one treats the slate as a broad survey of mainstream, regional, and international content, while the other foregrounds social-media buzz around ‘Dhamaal 4’ and early reactions to ‘GDN’, without quantifying either. As a result, the central shared finding across the coverage is the existence and composition of the September 4 streaming slate, rather than any measured audience response to it.
