Stephen Kalyn joins Sydney Sweeney in Lionsgate's 'The Housemaid's Secret' sequel

Stephen Kalyn, the 28-year-old Canadian actor known for Prime Video's "Off Campus," has officially joined the cast of Lionsgate's "The Housemaid's Secret," the sequel to the studio's 2025 hit "The Housemaid." Kalyn will play Brock, described as a handsome lawyer that Sweeney's character Millie Calloway begins seeing as she tries to return to a normal life after several years of helping women escape abusive husbands. He joins a returning Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst, Paul Anthony Kelly, and Brittany Snow, with Michele Morrone set to reprise his role as Enzo from the first film.

Feig returns to direct, Sonnenshine to adapt McFadden's sequel

Paul Feig returns to direct, with Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first film, also returning to write the screenplay. The sequel is based on Freida McFadden's 2023 novel "The Housemaid's Secret," in which Millie takes what she believes will be a normal housekeeping job with a wealthy CEO named Douglas Garrick, only to be drawn back into danger after hearing the CEO's wife, played by Dunst, crying behind a locked door. Producers include Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Laura Fischer and Feig of Pretty Dangerous Pictures, and Sweeney through her Honey Trap banner, with Carly Elter returning as executive producer and Honey Trap's Kaylee McGregor co-producing. Lionsgate executives Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio are overseeing the project.

Sequel stakes out a December 2027 holiday release date

Lionsgate has scheduled "The Housemaid's Secret" for Dec. 17, 2027, exactly two years after the first film's theatrical release, positioning the psychological thriller directly against the same-day openings of "Avengers: Secret Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." The original "The Housemaid," also directed by Feig and starring Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, grossed roughly $400 million worldwide over the holiday season despite competing with "Avatar: Fire and Ash."

Kalyn's breakout trajectory on Prime Video

Kalyn's casting follows his breakout role as Dean Di Laurentis in Prime Video's "Off Campus," adapted from Elle Kennedy's book series, which drew 36 million viewers worldwide over its first 12 days, making it the streamer's third-largest series debut over that span behind "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" and "Fallout." The show is set to adapt Kennedy's third novel, "The Score," with Kalyn and Mika Abdalla reprising the fan-favorite pairing of Dean and Allie Hayes.
