Apple recent iOS 27 launch and M6/M5 Ultra silicon announcements

Apple rolled out iOS 27 on September 15, 2026, adding upgraded Siri, Visual Intelligence in Camera, Write with Siri, AI-driven Photos tools, and performance fixes for iPhone 11 and newer (advanced AI requires iPhone 15 Pro or later). Earlier that year, on August 25, 2026, Apple introduced two new Apple silicon chips: the M6, its first 2nm chip debuting in Mac mini with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU and Dual 16-core Neural Engine; and the M5 Ultra, a quad-die SoC powering a Mac Studio configuration with up to 80-core GPU, 36-core CPU, and 512GB of unified memory.

  1. Apple unveils M6 and M5 Ultra chips for Mac mini and Mac Studio

    Apple announced the M6 chip, its first 2nm SoC, for the new Mac mini with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, Dual 16-core Neural Engine, and up to 170GB/s unified memory bandwidth. Alongside it, the M5 Ultra debuted in Mac Studio using a quad-die UltraFusion architecture with up to 36-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 32-core Neural Engine, up to 512GB unified memory, and 1.2TB/s memory bandwidth (50% higher than M3 Ultra).

  2. Apple releases iOS 27 with upgraded Siri and Visual Intelligence

    Apple launched iOS 27 for iPhone 11 and newer, with advanced capabilities requiring iPhone 15 Pro or later. The update brings a more conversational Siri that can access messages, emails, photos and files, Visual Intelligence analysis inside the Camera app, Write with Siri text assistance, Photos Clean Up and Extend/Reframe AI features, a Liquid Glass transparency slider, and broad performance fixes including faster animations, app launches, AirDrop, keyboard response, message syncing, and Wi-Fi/cellular handoff.
