Release window and platform lineup

Square Enix and Disney used the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 to confirm that Kingdom Hearts IV will launch in late 2027. The game's platform list now includes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC, with wishlists opened across storefronts on the same day.
First Disney world: Coco
The new trailer's centerpiece is the game's first officially announced Disney world: Pixar's Coco. Sora is shown fighting Heartless in a recreation of the Land of the Dead, adopting a skeletal look and wielding a guitar-shaped Keyblade. Benjamin Bratt appeared on stage to confirm he is reprising his film role as Ernesto de la Cruz.
Returning cast and story threads
The trailer reintroduces King Mickey in a more prominent role as he searches a library for a way to save Sora, while Donald and Goofy visit Hades under the assumption that their missing friend has ended up in the underworld. The narrative picks up after Sora's disappearance at the end of Kingdom Hearts III and continues to develop the realistic city of Quadratum introduced in earlier previews.
Companion anime announced
Alongside the game, Disney confirmed a Kingdom Hearts anime series greenlit for Disney Channel and Disney+. The show is being developed in partnership with series creator Tetsuya Nomura and the Square Enix creative team, and is framed as a reimagining of the franchise rather than a direct adaptation of any single game.
Publisher context and timing
If the late 2027 window holds, Square Enix would be lining up Kingdom Hearts IV alongside Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion in the same release year, marking a notably dense publishing slate for the company.
