Microsoft pushed an Xbox console update overnight that brings longer gamertags to all users alongside 11 other features previously restricted to Xbox Insider testers. The new build expands the character count for gamertags, introduces updated Xbox 360 achievement artwork, and lets users personalise their console while offline, alongside bug fixes. The features had been staged through the Insider programme in recent weeks before reaching the wider Xbox console audience.

Bethesda Game Studios developers in Montreal are protesting after Microsoft cut 12 employees at the studio as part of a broader Xbox restructuring. Microsoft eliminated roughly 3,200 positions across its Xbox division, representing about 2% of its total workforce. According to reports from CTV News, the Montreal terminations occurred during active negotiations for the studio's first collective bargaining agreement, prompting affected workers to label the cuts illegal. Former employee Simon Prefontaine described the studio atmosphere as one of "stupefaction, anger, and sadness," and said this marks the third consecutive summer of layoffs at the studio. In a statement to CTV News, Microsoft said it "respects our employees' right to have their voices heard" and recognises "this is a difficult time for many," adding that it is focused on "supporting the affected employees during this transition, while positioning the organization to ensure its long-term strength."
ZeniMax Online Studios loses senior leadership
ZeniMax Online Studios, the developer of The Elder Scrolls Online, is losing senior leaders as part of Microsoft's wider Xbox job cuts, according to Eurogamer. Before the departing executives leave, new leaders promoted from within the studio's ranks will be installed and assisted through the hand-off. Affected Bethesda workers are continuing to push for the reinstatement of the terminated employees as Microsoft and union representatives continue effects bargaining over the cuts.
