Record Quarter at the Nevada Recycling Facility
American Battery Technology Company (NASDAQ: ABAT) reported fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 revenue of $8.2 million for the period ended June 30, 2026, up 5.1% from $7.8 million in the prior quarter. The company also recorded its highest-ever quarterly gross profit of $1.3 million, an 86% sequential increase, as cost of goods sold declined 2.8% to $6.9 million. Management attributed the improvement to scaling and operational efficiencies at its Nevada lithium-ion battery recycling facility.
$57 Million DOE Grant Reinstated for Tonopah Flats
The company said it successfully appealed the termination of a $57 million U.S. Department of Energy competitive grant supporting construction of the first processing train at its planned Tonopah Flats Lithium Project in Nevada. The first processing train is expected to require roughly $115 million in total investment, so the reinstated grant could cover approximately half of that amount. ABTC also reported completing the NEPA baseline study for the claystone-to-lithium hydroxide demonstration plant and initiating a Definitive Feasibility Study following its October 2025 Pre-Feasibility Study.
Balance Sheet and Capital Position
ABTC ended the quarter with $50.3 million in cash, comprising $49.5 million in unrestricted funds and $0.8 million in restricted cash, and reported holding zero debt. The company processed high-value recycled feedstock from battery energy storage systems, end-of-life electric and hybrid vehicles, and consumer electronics, including CERCLA-classified waste handled under EPA permitting.
Regulatory Risk Over Black-Mass Export Restrictions
Management flagged regulatory uncertainty tied to a new U.S. directive restricting exports of black mass, the shredded battery material that is the primary feedstock for the company's recycling process. ABTC said it has requested an exception from the Department of Commerce. The outcome of that request is not specified in the available reporting.
Growth Plans and New Partnerships
The company outlined plans to develop a second, larger recycling facility in the southeastern United States and to establish new supply-chain partnerships with battery energy storage operators and automotive original equipment manufacturers. ABTC continued advancing its claystone-to-lithium hydroxide demonstration plant in parallel with the feasibility study work at Tonopah Flats.
