Lorne Balfe tapped for animated Cat in the Hat score
Grammy-winning and Emmy- and BAFTA-nominated Scottish composer Lorne Balfe has composed the original score for an animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat. The film is slated for a global theatrical release beginning November 6, 2026, with further details still to be announced. The score is described as dynamic and playful, marking a distinctive departure from Balfe's action-driven work on films including Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Top Gun: Maverick, Black Widow, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and The LEGO Batman Movie.
Abbey Road sessions and orchestral scale
For the recording, Balfe assembled an orchestra of 124 musicians at Abbey Road Studios in London, a gathering described as the largest orchestra recorded at the famous facility. Balfe said the experience of working with the orchestra and "some of the best musicians" was wonderful. Born in Inverness, Balfe began his career as the youngest percussionist in the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra before moving to the United States to build his film, television and gaming composing career.
Transformers soundtrack reissued in reformatted edition
In a separate soundtrack development, Hasbro Music and Reigning Phoenix Music released "The Transformers: The Movie: The Soundtrack: The Reformatted Edition," a reissue of the music from the 1986 animated film. Music outlets Dead Rhetoric and therazorsedge.rocks both ran album reviews of the set on July 22, 2026, covering the reformatted release.
