An All-Women Lineup at Great Park
Olivia Rodrigo launched the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival on August 29 at Irvine's Great Park, where temperatures reached 95 degrees as a large crowd filled two stages. The lineup mixed generations of artists, with Bikini Kill, the Breeders, Garbage, and María Zardoya's Not for Radio performing on one side and Mitski, Doechii, and Chappell Roan anchoring the other. All performers donated their time, directing net proceeds to Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields Fund and beneficiary organizations including Planned Parenthood, Baby2Baby, the National Women's Law Center, and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance.
A Headlining Set and $20 Million for Charity
Rodrigo closed the evening with an approximately 80-minute headlining set. Before she took the stage, organizers announced that Melinda French Gates had pledged to match the event's earnings, bringing the fundraiser's total to $20 million — twice what the original Lilith Fair raised over its multi-year run. Rodrigo performed tracks from her first two albums, previewed material from her record You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, and debuted a new protest song titled "Serena Joy."
Surprise Guests from McLachlan to Nicks
The headlining set included a series of cross-generational collaborations. Sarah McLachlan — whose 1997–1999 Lilith Fair tour provided the festival's inspiration — joined Rodrigo for a Dolly Parton tribute. Alanis Morissette appeared for a duet of "Ironic," and Stevie Nicks closed the evening with an encore rendition of "Landslide" alongside Rodrigo.
Styling as a Second Headline
Performers used fashion to signal the festival's themes. Doechii appeared in pink body paint with platform moto boots, and Chappell Roan wore a look developed with Genesis Webb that referenced the Luc Besson film "The Fifth Element." Katseye's Megan Skiendiel was among the attendees spotted on site. Rodrigo herself took the stage in a white lace-trimmed dress.
What's Next
Rodrigo has signaled plans to bring the festival back, with Vulture reporting she has promised another edition of Daisy Chain Fields. The size, location, and beneficiary roster for any subsequent edition have not yet been announced.
