Spotify is reportedly aiming to launch an AI-powered music remix service in the first quarter of 2027, with a potential unveiling around the Grammy Awards in February, according to the Financial Times as reported by Deccan Chronicle. The service remains under consideration rather than officially launched.
The proposed feature would let paying subscribers use AI to create their own versions of songs, including transforming a folk song into a dance track or making one artist appear to cover another artist’s music. Spotify did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Possible subscriber pricing
Spotify is considering charging subscribers an additional $4 to $5 per month for the service. No pricing decision was confirmed in the reviewed reporting.
The proposed commercial model would also direct royalties from fan-created remixes back to original artists, while plays of those remixes would count toward the original songs in Spotify’s charts.
Licensing progress remains incomplete
Spotify has reportedly reached licensing agreements with Universal Music Group, independent label group Merlin and French music company Believe for the remix feature. The company is still negotiating with Sony Music and Warner Music, meaning participation by all five named music companies had not been reported as complete.
The Grammy Awards link is a potential timing target
The reported February unveiling coincides with the Grammy Awards, but the reviewed sources describe the timing as a potential target rather than a confirmed event date or an official Spotify announcement. As of the October 30, 2026 reporting, the service’s launch, subscriber pricing and remaining licensing negotiations were all still at the planning or negotiation stage.
