Packers report first non-pandemic operating loss since 1990
Green Bay released its 2026 fiscal year financial results, posting $753 million in revenues and $754.1 million in expenses. Revenues were up 4.7% while expenses increased 18.7%, producing an operating loss for the first time in a non-pandemic year since the 1990 fiscal year. Overall net income reached $132.5 million, up 54.8%, buoyed by $133.6 million in nonoperating revenues including gains from corporate investments and the team's share of ESPN's purchase of NFL Network.
Policy flags structural revenue gap with privately owned rivals
Packers president and CEO Ed Policy said the franchise's publicly owned status limits its ability to raise capital compared with peers that can sell minority equity stakes. Policy noted that rivals can sell 5% to 10% of their equity without surrendering control and potentially raise more than the Packers' capital reserve fund in a matter of months. He framed the imbalance by saying other teams have access to a financial "ATM machine that we just don't have right now" and said the organization must be "more aggressive with revenue generation going forward." A $130 million increase in player costs drove the expense jump, including the offseason acquisition of edge rusher Micah Parsons from Dallas on a four-year, $188 million contract with $136 million guaranteed and accelerated payments to traded players.
Naming rights, Titletown deal, and Lambeau event plans
Policy said the Packers have no plans to sell naming rights to Lambeau Field but are willing to monetize the practice facility. The football field at Titletown, the development west of Lambeau, has already been renamed Emplify Health Field under a new sponsorship deal. The team is also planning more non-football events at Lambeau, following Luke Combs concerts in May and the upcoming Notre Dame-Wisconsin college football game scheduled for Sept. 6. The franchise's annual shareholders meeting is set for three days after the financial report's release.
