Huddersfield Giants have signed Hull FC half-back Jake Arthur on a two-year contract that runs through the 2027 season. The 23-year-old Australian joins Huddersfield after his contract at Hull was ended a year earlier than scheduled, and the deal was confirmed by the club on Wednesday.
Arthur has made 22 appearances and scored six tries for the Black and Whites this season after arriving in Super League from Newcastle Knights. Huddersfield director of rugby Andy Kelly said the club moved quickly because Arthur fits the style head coach Jim Lenihan is building, telling the club website: "I feel that the way Jim Lenihan is setting us up to play, Jake fits that mould. He's a controlling half and a fantastic addition. He's ready to make a statement and we'll give him the platform and the stage to do just that."
Family ties and West Yorkshire move
The move brings Arthur closer to his father, Brad Arthur, who is head coach at Leeds Rhinos, the Super League club's West Yorkshire neighbor. Brad Arthur has been in charge at Headingley and recently signed a two-year extension to remain in the role, keeping the family based in the region while Jake commits his future to Huddersfield.
Arthur has already played more than 100 senior matches across his time in the NRL with Newcastle Knights and at Hull FC, experience Huddersfield pointed to as central to their recruitment decision. The half-back said the chance to play under Lenihan and alongside the club's other recent spine signings was a decisive factor in choosing the Giants.
Huddersfield reshape their spine for 2027
The Arthur deal is part of a wider reshaping of Huddersfield's spine ahead of the 2027 campaign. The club has also added hookers Kruise Leeming and Jeylan Hodgson, along with forward Jaimin Jolliffe, as part of the same recruitment cycle.
Huddersfield finished this season with an interim coach in place following the departure of previous head coach Ian Watson, and the club is preparing for the 2027 Super League season with a substantially reworked spine. Kelly framed the Arthur signing as the headline addition in that group, designed to give the side a controlling presence in the halves.
