India’s para-athletes finished their campaign at the Asian Para Games with a reported record of 114 medals, comprising 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze, after nine golds on Friday in Aichi-Nagoya. The nine medals represented India’s biggest single-day gold haul of the ongoing edition, according to reporting published on October 23.
The total exceeded India’s previous best of 108 medals, including 27 gold, at Hangzhou in 2023. India competed with 168 athletes, nearly half the size of its Hangzhou contingent, according to the same reporting.
Athletics supplied most of the medals
Para-athletics remained India’s largest medal contributor, with 65 medals, 12 more than at Hangzhou. The sport accounted for 22 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze medals.
Friday’s gold medals extended beyond athletics. India won golds in badminton, archery and shooting, as well as athletics, with the final-day performance contributing nine golds in total.
Swimming accounted for 11 medals
India’s para-swimmers won three silver and eight bronze medals, for 11 in total, and no gold, according to the sport-by-sport medal breakdown reported on October 23. No further breakdown by swimmer or event was provided in the reviewed reporting.
The wider Indian haul also included 16 medals in badminton, seven in para table tennis, five in shooting, six in archery, two each in judo and powerlifting, and 65 in athletics.
Final standing remained provisional
India was reported in fourth place when its campaign ended, but its final position could change after remaining events scheduled for Saturday. The Indian contingent did not include athletes competing in those remaining finals.
The two lead reports differ on the intermediate medal count during coverage, with one describing an earlier total of 113 before the final tally reached 114, but both reported 114 medals overall and 30 gold.
