Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Chase Center in San Francisco, pitting the Golden State Valkyries against the Atlanta Dream in a best-of-seven format for the WNBA Championship Trophy. The Valkyries earned home-court advantage by finishing ahead of Atlanta in the regular season at 32-12, according to pre-series coverage. The series is scheduled to run as long as Oct. 31 if it goes the distance, with games televised across NBC, USA Network and CNBC and streamed on Peacock and other services.
Both franchises reach the Finals for the first time
The matchup marks the first Finals appearance for each club. Golden State reached the championship round in just its second season of existence after sweeping the Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals, and the Dream advanced by sweeping the New York Liberty. Atlanta arrives on a ten-game winning streak that has covered all of its postseason run, having not lost since late August. The Dream are 13-2 against the spread over their last 15 games, while the Valkyries are 4-0 at home in the playoffs at the Chase Center.
Atlanta's defense and depth lead a red-hot run
Atlanta enters the series ranked atop the playoff leaderboard in steals (10.6) and defensive rating (102), and the Dream also post the WNBA's best net rating at +9.6, per WNBA Advanced Stats cited in pre-game reporting. The roster is built around Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Jordin Canada and veteran DeWanna Bonner, with Angel Reese second in Finals MVP odds at +390 behind Golden State's Gabby Williams (+100). Bonner's presence is tied to Atlanta's 10-0 record with her on the floor this postseason, a mark that contrasts with Atlanta's 0-3 regular-season record against the Valkyries, which came before she joined the roster. Gray's status remained in question entering Game 1 because of a lingering hand issue that sidelined her for two games against the Liberty.
Golden State leans on Williams and a balanced attack
The Valkyries led the postseason in offensive rating at 114 on a slower pace of 88.13 possessions, relying on Williams alongside Kayla Thornton, Veronica Burton, Kiah Stokes and Tiffany Hayes. Coach Natalie Nakase, the reigning Coach of the Year, spent three seasons as an assistant under Becky Hammon with the Aces before taking over Golden State. The team is listed at around -115 to win the series at multiple sportsbooks, a sharp move from preseason odds of 33/1, after two double-digit wins over Las Vegas in the semifinals that included a 17-0 run in Game 3 to overcome a 47-36 deficit.
Broadcast and streaming options for Game 1
Coverage of the 2026 WNBA Finals is available through NBC, USA Network and CNBC on television, with DirecTV, Fubo, Sling and Hulu + Live TV listed as streaming cable alternatives carrying those channels, and Peacock offering direct livestreams. Pre-Finals promotional pricing cited by the broadcast guide listed DirecTV's entry-level Entertainment package at $59.99 for the first month and $89.99 afterward, Fubo's Pro plan at $63.99 for the first month and $88.99 afterward, and Sling Orange + Blue at $69.99 per month, with availability noted as dependent on local TV market.
