Samsung Galaxy Z8 foldables attract younger buyers
Samsung Electronics reported on July 31 that customers in their teens through thirties accounted for more than half of pre-orders for its newest Galaxy Z foldable lineup—the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8—during a pre-sale window that opened on July 28 and runs through August 3. Among those younger buyers, the Fold8 was the most popular model, a result Samsung attributed to its passport-like portability when folded and a 7.6-inch tablet-style display when unfolded. Cream led color choices, with Samsung.com-exclusive Pistachio and signature Lavender also drawing demand.
Pre-order incentives include a complimentary upgrade from 256GB to 512GB storage—Samsung values the offer at 253,000 won—and for Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra buyers who reserve the 512GB version, the option to upgrade to 1TB by paying half the price difference, or an additional 310,700 won. Samsung also highlighted improved cross-platform features: iPhone users can wirelessly transfer data to a Galaxy device by scanning a QR code without installing a separate app, and Quick Share has been updated to work with Apple's AirDrop. The Flip8 is reportedly popular in Mint, Cream and Pink, while the Fold8 Ultra is attracting interest in Graphite and a Samsung.com-exclusive Green Shadow.
OnePlus N6x debuts in India with large battery
OnePlus launched the N6x in India on July 31 as the second model in its newly introduced N series and the lineup's new entry-level option. The handset ships in Burgundy Red and Ice Blue, with a base 4GB+64GB variant priced at Rs. 18,999 and a top-end 4GB+128GB configuration at Rs. 20,999, including a Rs. 1,500 instant bank discount on select cards and up to six months of no-cost EMI. Sales are scheduled to begin on August 4 at 12pm IST via Amazon and the OnePlus online store.
The N6x runs OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16 and features a 6.8-inch HD+ LCD with up to a 120Hz refresh rate and 900 nits peak brightness. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Apex octa-core chipset and a 7,000mAh battery with 15W wired charging and 5W reverse wired charging. The camera setup is a single 13-megapixel rear sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and 10x digital zoom, paired with a 5-megapixel front camera. OnePlus has also equipped the phone with a vapour chamber covering a 13,280 sq mm heat dissipation area and MIL-STD-810H durability certification.
Redmi confirms K100 Pro series launch for August 11
Redmi confirmed via a Weibo post that the K100 Pro series will launch in China on August 11, 2026 at 7:00 PM CST, adopting a dual-flagship rollout: the K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max arrive first, while the standard K100 will follow at a later, unspecified date. Xiaomi President Lu Weibing clarified that the standard model has not been scrapped and will continue to focus on flagship-grade performance with a more everyday-friendly experience.
The K100 Pro Max was shown in a Cabernet Red finish with a colour-matched metal frame, an integrated rear camera island and a new floating light ring around the cameras that syncs with music playback, calls, notifications and Xiaomi's AI assistant. The phone is confirmed to feature a flat 6.9-inch display with ultra-narrow bezels and a curved metal frame, alongside a triple-camera setup that includes a periscope telephoto lens. Pre-reservations are already open through Xiaomi's official online store, and the K100 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be rebranded internationally as the Poco F9 Pro and Poco F9 Ultra, though Redmi has not confirmed availability outside China.
Tecno previews a zero-bezel smartphone concept
Tecno announced it will bring a new concept smartphone to IFA 2026 featuring what it calls an "industry-first" zero-millimeter border. The Chinese phone maker says the design uses an "advanced internal stacking" structure and new screen packing techniques to eliminate the final millimeter of border normally required for internal circuitry and safety clearances, with the bezel measured at 0 microns. Ultra-narrow bezels have already become standard on flagship phones, with recent Apple and Samsung devices typically reaching around 90 percent screen coverage and phones from Xiaomi and Honor reaching 95 percent with hidden cameras and razor-thin edges.
Tecno framed the bezel-less approach as the foundation of a future "distinct design language" for its phones, though the company has rarely launched devices in Western Europe or the US. The press materials flag touch sensitivity as a consideration, and additional details are expected at IFA 2026.
Huawei positions the Pura 90s Series as imaging flagship
Huawei announced the HUAWEI Pura 90s Series will arrive in the Philippines in August, positioning the lineup as the "King of Imaging" with next-generation camera technology, AI-powered photography and what Huawei describes as stronger 5G connectivity and reliable durability.
Leading the lineup, the Pura 90s Pro Max uses a quad-camera system with a 200MP Ultra Large Sensor Telephoto Camera built around a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor, delivering 20x telephoto zoom and CIPA 7.0 image stabilization. It is paired with a 50MP Ultra Lighting HDR Camera, a 2nd Gen True-to-Colour Camera and AI processing. The Pura 90s Pro adds a 50MP Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera with a minimum focusing distance of 5cm. Specific Philippine pricing and on-sale dates were not announced alongside the reveal.
