Strategic shift toward unmanned military platforms

Polar Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: POLA), a Gardena, California-based designer and manufacturer of advanced direct current (DC) power systems, said on August 19, 2026 that its ongoing customer diversification strategy is driving increased sales and development activity in military applications involving drones, robotics, unmanned surface vessels (USVs), communications and battery charging. The company framed the move as an effort to apply more than three decades of DC power expertise to the power and charging requirements of modern unmanned military platforms, positioning itself as a supplier of field power infrastructure for remote, off-grid and mission-critical environments.

Current defense projects and partners

Polar Power outlined a slate of projects and applications already under way. These include DC power systems supporting high-speed rapid-fire projectile systems in collaboration with the U.S. Navy Warfare Center Dahlgren, DC power solutions for autonomous targeting platforms used in drone-defense applications with a major defense contractor, autonomous land-based border-security stations requiring reliable off-grid power, DC marine generators being evaluated for propulsion, communications, monitoring and defense on water-based autonomous platforms with multiple defense companies, and compact DC generators for mobile battery charging and field power for robotics, drones and communications with multiple defense companies and government agencies. The company did not name the defense contractors involved beyond the U.S. Navy Warfare Center reference.

Technology foundation and revenue scale

Polar Power's military and advanced-mobility strategy builds on its existing DC generator technology, with configurations designed for applications where reliability, light weight, compact size, fuel efficiency and low maintenance are critical. The company disclosed that sales to individual defense contractors and government agencies generally involve limited quantities while products move through field testing, qualification and evaluation before production contracts, and that military contracts it has been awarded typically generate $1 million to $1.5 million in annual revenues. Polar Power said it believes successful completion of those stages could create opportunities for larger production orders and broader deployment, while cautioning there can be no assurance such opportunities will materialize.

Outlook for unmanned systems power demand

Polar Power argued that as drones and other unmanned systems become more capable and are deployed for longer periods across defense and commercial applications such as intelligence and reconnaissance, logistics, infrastructure inspection, agriculture, public safety and autonomous defense operations, reliable field power, propulsion and battery-charging infrastructure becomes increasingly important. Chief executive Arthur D. Sams said the company's engineers and staff "enjoy the challenges of working with our defense contractors and the various DoD agencies," describing significant personal satisfaction with what gets accomplished on the projects.

Follow-up signals

Polar Power's next verifiable milestones will be the progression of its current drone-defense, autonomous targeting, border-security and USV programs from field testing and qualification into production contracts, which the company tied to potential larger production orders and broader deployment.
