State funding targets EV charging expansion
A state program announced on July 22 will make more than $2 million available to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The funding is intended to accelerate the deployment of charging stations across the state as electric vehicle adoption grows and drivers seek reliable access to charging outside major metropolitan areas.
August application window
Applications for the funding are scheduled to open in August, giving applicants an opportunity to pursue grants to build out additional charging capacity. The application window is designed to move capital quickly into projects that expand access and shorten gaps in the existing charging network. State officials positioned the timeline as part of a broader push to keep pace with rising EV registrations.
Industry context: new EV product launches
The infrastructure push comes alongside active electric vehicle product launches in major markets. Volvo Car Korea launched the ES90, an all-electric flagship sedan, on the same day, with pricing set approximately 50 million won below levels in Sweden and other European markets. The model is built on an 800V architecture with up to 706 km of range on a single charge and secured more than 1,000 pre-orders before its domestic launch. Volvo has set a target of selling more than 1,000 ES90 units this year and expanding sales beyond 3,000 next year, with a broader goal of selling more than 10,000 electric vehicles annually in Korea.
