Fairphone has officially entered the US smartphone market with the Fairphone (Gen 6+), an unlocked Android device priced at $649. The phone is available through Fairphone.com and Amazon and is certified for use on T-Mobile and AT&T networks. This marks the first time Fairphone has formally sold one of its smartphones to American consumers, positioning the device as an alternative to the established Apple–Samsung duopoly and to recent departures such as OnePlus.
Repairability and warranty
The Gen 6+ is built around owner-serviceable hardware, with 12 modular components — including the screen, battery, and USB-C port — that can be swapped using a single screwdriver included in the box. A replacement screen is listed at $90, a fresh battery at $40, and a USB-C port at $20. Fairphone backs the device with a five-year warranty and has continued the modular approach that earned its earlier model a 10/10 iFixit repairability score. The phone has also passed military-standard drop testing.
Hardware and software support
The handset pairs 12 GB of DDR5 RAM with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, which Fairphone says delivers up to 24% faster app loading and switching, plus a 20% improvement in multitasking allocation. It ships with Android 16, without added bloatware, and is committed to software updates through 2033. Other specifications include a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display, a triple-camera system with a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 700C main sensor with optical image stabilization, expandable microSD storage up to 2 TB, and a rated battery life of close to 53 hours per charge.
Accessories, colors and software options
Fairphone is extending its modular accessory system to the US, allowing users to attach finger loops, lanyards, and card holders to the back cover using two screws. The phone is offered in Forest Green, Horizon Black, and a new Cobalt Blue finish, the last tied to Fairphone's work with responsible mining initiatives such as the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance and the Fair Cobalt Alliance. Returning alongside the device is the Fairphone Moments feature, a physical switch that toggles a minimalist interface. A Murena /e/OS de-Googled variant is available for $699.
Sustainability and sourcing
More than 50% of the Gen 6+'s materials by total weight are fair or recycled, spanning 14 fairly mined or recycled inputs. Fairphone estimates the device's carbon footprint at roughly 30 kg CO2e per unit and says it remains 100% e-waste neutral. Since 2019, the company has paid more than $1.25 million through its Living Wage Bonus program tied to its supply chain. These claims frame the US launch as both a hardware and an ethical-sourcing proposition rather than a conventional spec-driven release.
