BYD Da Han sedan surfaces with long range and low price

A white car travels down a winding road in the lush hills of Shaqlawa, Iraq, showcasing serene scenery.

Filings with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that BYD is preparing the Da Han, or "Great Han," all-electric sedan ahead of its official debut, according to reporting that reviewed the MIIT documents. The sedan uses a 102.3-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery pack. Some rear-wheel-drive trims are rated for 626 miles (1,008 kilometers) on China's CLTC testing cycle, while other rear-wheel-drive versions are listed at 603 miles. All-wheel-drive versions are shown at 510 to 547 miles, with outputs of up to 764 horsepower.

The sedan is unusually large, longer than a standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Chinese reports place the starting price at around 300,000 yuan, or roughly $44,300. The 626-mile figure rests on the CLTC standard, which is generally considered more generous than Environmental Protection Agency ratings used in the United States, so any future U.S. EPA estimate would likely be lower. The combination of a sub-$50,000 price, large LFP pack, and high CLTC range positions the Da Han against established premium EV competitors.

Changan's Nevo A06 launches as first sodium-battery production car

Changan has unveiled the Nevo A06, described in recent coverage as the first production car equipped with a sodium battery. The vehicle uses CATL's Naxtra sodium battery with a 45 kWh capacity, providing a range of 400 kilometers (about 249 miles) on China's CLTC standard. The pack achieves an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, surpassing the roughly 160 Wh/kg typical of most LFP batteries. CATL has indicated further development is underway, with longer-term targets pushing range toward 600 kilometers (about 373 miles) in future models.

Cold-weather performance and safety are central to the pitch. Initial testing reportedly showed sodium cells charging and discharging at rates up to three times those of LFP batteries at -30°C, retaining 90 percent of capacity at -40°C and operating at temperatures as low as -50°C. In puncture and saw-cut tests, the Naxtra pack continued working without sparking or producing smoke. Changan's other brands, including Deepal and Avatr, are reportedly considering adopting the Naxtra sodium battery in future models, though no firm rollout dates were disclosed in the reporting.

Windrose plans 10 electric semis along the Texas–Mexico corridor

Windrose, alongside DSV, Allogic, and Greenspace E-Mobility, has announced plans to deploy 10 R700 long-haul electric Class 8 trucks along the Greenspace "Electric Highway" on I-35 in Texas and Highway 85 in Mexico, linking Dallas to Monterrey via Laredo and San Antonio. Phase 1 of the buildout targets four Green Hubs locations energized on the Texas side by the fourth quarter of this year, with high-power charging from 400 to 1,000 kW planned along the route. Each site is described as incorporating on-site solar generation and battery storage intended to operate independent of grid constraints on one of North America's highest-volume freight corridors.

Phase 2, targeted for completion in 2027, would extend infrastructure into Monterrey and the Colombia–Nuevo León international bridge crossing, completing what the company is calling the first fully electric cross-border freight route between Mexico and the United States, with an additional 25 Windrose R700 trucks planned for deployment. The reporting flags that nothing in the official release explicitly states that DSV, Allogic, Greenspace, or any other party has placed a firm order for the initial 10 trucks, and it remains unclear which entity will own the vehicles or whether the announcement represents an order, a deployment agreement, or a pilot extension.

Upcoming milestones and open questions

Several near-term developments can be tracked. BYD's official debut of the Da Han would convert the MIIT-listed specifications into confirmed pricing and a launch timeline; real-world range performance will be the key test for the 626-mile CLTC claim. For Changan, the key signals are any disclosures from Deepal or Avatr about Naxtra adoption and CATL's progress toward its roughly 600-kilometer range target for next-generation sodium packs. For Windrose, the next measurable milestone is the energization of the Texas-side Green Hubs in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the cross-border Phase 2 buildout in 2027 and a clearer picture of who is funding and operating the initial 10 R700 trucks.
