HCLTech opens ₹185 crore Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru

Facility scope and capabilities

HCLTech has launched an Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru backed by an investment of ₹185 crore, expanding the company's semiconductor engineering and testing operations. The 40,000 square-foot facility includes 25,000 square feet of Class 10K and Class 1K cleanrooms and offers end-to-end post-silicon engineering, advanced testing and failure analysis. The lab is equipped with tools from Teradyne, Advantest, Keysight, Tektronix and Thermo Fisher Scientific, and houses automated test equipment, probes, qualification chambers, optical and electron microscopy and focused ion beam systems.

Equipment lineup and certifications

The facility supports research and development, pre-production and production qualification, with capabilities spanning electrical validation, automated testing, qualification and failure analysis. HCLTech said the lab is set to achieve ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AS 9100 (Mil-Aero) and ISO 13485 (Medical) certifications. The site is aligned with HCLTech's Spec2Parts business model, providing a unified platform that covers the process from design specifications to finished semiconductor parts, and is intended to serve both domestic and international clients.

Executive comment and strategic intent

Hari Sadarahalli, Corporate Vice President and Global Head of Engineering and R&D Services at HCLTech, framed the launch as part of the company's broader engineering push. "This facility reflects our deep commitment to investing in high-end engineering capabilities. We are excited to contribute to the country's vision of becoming a global hub for advanced technology," he said. HCLTech said the lab is designed to accelerate time-to-market for global clients and to address gaps in India's semiconductor testing and engineering ecosystem.

Market reaction and near-term milestones

Shares of HCLTech fell 0.25 percent on the day of the announcement, according to HDFC Sky. The facility's certifications and equipment commissioning remain pending, and the company's stated next milestones include completing ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AS 9100 and ISO 13485 accreditation processes for the Bengaluru lab.
