Xiaomi Auto, the automotive arm of Xiaomi, signed Memoranda of Understanding with an initial group of eight German automotive dealer groups during IFA Berlin 2026 on September 3, 2026. The agreements represent the automaker's first step in building a European retail and service network ahead of its planned entry into European markets, including Germany, in 2027.

The eight initial partners are Ernst Dello GmbH & Co. KG, Autohaus Dinnebier GmbH, Emil Frey Germany, Fett & Wirtz Automobile GmbH & Co. KG, Hahn Automobile GmbH + Co. KG, LUEG Mobility GmbH, Penske-Jacobs Innovation GmbH, and SPT Avior SE & Co. KG. Xiaomi Auto said the groups have decades of operating experience in Germany and across Europe, including expertise in sales and servicing of premium automotive brands, with some having been in business for more than a century.

Strategic backing from Xiaomi leadership

Yu Liguo, vice president of Xiaomi Auto and head of its international business division, said the company intends to make a long-term commitment to Europe, with localized cooperation central to its strategy. He pointed to Xiaomi Auto's European R&D center in Munich and its expanding network of sales and service partners as the foundation for delivering products and services to local customers. Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing announced the development on Weibo, adding that Xiaomi Auto conducted extensive market research in Germany last year and held face-to-face discussions with numerous dealers, after which representatives from the dealer groups visited Xiaomi Auto's factory during this year's Auto China in Beijing.

European testing and validation infrastructure

Models being prepared for overseas markets will undergo high-speed validation and functional testing at seven facilities across Sweden, Germany, Spain and Italy, including the Arjeplog winter-testing site and the Nürburgring. The Munich-based R&D center will anchor the company's European engineering operations alongside this testing network.

Unresolved details ahead of the 2027 launch

The documents signed at IFA are MoUs rather than definitive dealership agreements, and Xiaomi has not disclosed the number of stores each group plans to operate, their sales territories, investment amounts, or partnership terms. The company has also not yet announced which models it will sell in Europe, local pricing, or a more specific launch and delivery timetable for 2027. Germany will serve as the starting point for Xiaomi Auto's European retail network, with additional partnerships planned as the 2027 launch approaches.

Digital presence launched ahead of dealer build-out

The dealer signings came about one week after Xiaomi Auto launched its global website and official international social media channels on August 26, opening direct communication with overseas audiences ahead of the planned European market entry. The website explicitly stated that Xiaomi Auto would enter European markets, marking the company's transition from research and preparation to active market-entry execution.
