METHOD & CONTEXT

Which letters enter the Soul Urge total

Soul Urge, also called Heart’s Desire, uses vowels from the full birth name. A, E, I, O, and U are always included. Y is pronunciation-dependent, so the page does not make that linguistic decision invisibly: it defaults to a consonant and provides a checkbox when Y functions as a vowel in the entered name. The audit shows the included subset.

Each name part is totaled from its included vowels, reduced, and then combined with the other reduced parts. A part containing no vowels contributes nothing but remains visible in the calculation. The selected classical or modern master-number convention applies throughout. This makes the result repeatable and allows a reader to see exactly why changing Y changes the total.

Pronunciation matters more than a universal Y rule

Y can represent a vowel sound in names such as Lynn or Bryn and a consonant sound in names beginning with a “y” glide. A global checkbox is a transparent simplification; a name containing multiple Y letters with different sounds may require a hand calculation. The page explains this limitation instead of claiming perfect phonetic analysis from spelling alone.

Accented Latin vowels normalize to their base letters. Unsupported scripts are not automatically transliterated, because different romanization systems would create different values. If a person uses a chosen transliteration, that exact spelling becomes the input to this Pythagorean method. Punctuation receives no number, and any unsupported character is disclosed in the audit.

Inner desire is a metaphor, not a measurement

Traditional interpretations connect Soul Urge with motivations, values, or private preferences. A letter total cannot directly measure those experiences, and it should not be used to tell someone what they secretly want. The short meaning is written as a reflection prompt that the reader may accept, reject, or adapt based on actual self-knowledge.

Names are calculated locally and never saved or attached to a public URL. Use the tool to understand the vowel formula, compare master-number handling, or check a reading. Do not use it to diagnose mental health, assess honesty, pressure a partner, or make employment decisions. Personality uses consonants; Expression uses all included letters.
