A $1,000 investment in KKR & Co. made in October 2016 would have been worth $6,603.72 as of October 30, 2026, according to Zacks Equity Research’s calculation. That represents a 560.37% gain from price appreciation alone and excludes dividends.

The calculated return was higher than the 263.07% increase for the S&P 500 and the 204.58% return for gold over the same period. These comparisons are based on price performance and do not include dividends in the KKR calculation; the source does not provide equivalent dividend-adjustment details for the two benchmarks.

KKR’s operating scale

KKR is a New York-based global investment firm operating in alternative asset management, capital markets and insurance. As of June 30, 2026, it reported $796 billion in total assets under management, $638 billion in fee-paying AUM and $334 billion in perpetual-capital AUM.

Perpetual capital represented 42% of total AUM and 50% of fee-paying AUM. KKR operates through Asset Management, Strategic Holdings and Insurance Business, with investment strategies spanning private equity, credit, infrastructure, energy, real estate, growth equity, core and impact investments.

Insurance operations at Global Atlantic

KKR’s insurance subsidiaries offer retirement, life and reinsurance products through Global Atlantic. KKR acquired a majority controlling interest in the business on February 1, 2021, and the remaining equity interests on January 2, 2024.

Global Atlantic primarily earns income through the spread between investment income and the cost of policyholder benefits. The reviewed reporting also said KKR joined the S&P 500 on June 24, 2024.

Near-term operating considerations

Zacks reported that KKR shares had underperformed their industry over the previous six months. It said higher commission, reinsurance and compensation costs could keep expenses elevated in the near term, while lower return on equity indicated reduced efficiency in using shareholders’ funds.

The report also said KKR beat earnings estimates in three of its trailing four quarters and missed once. Its stock was quoted down 1.49% in the reviewed coverage, but the supplied reporting does not establish a closing price for October 30.
