Tower-Nvidia silicon photonics deal

Israeli chipmaker Tower Semiconductor (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) announced a collaboration with Nvidia to supply silicon photonics (SiPho) components for optical communication modules used in Nvidia's AI data center network infrastructure. The components will go into 1.6 terabytes per second optical modules designed for AI data centers. Tower said its silicon photonics platform delivers data rates up to twice as high as prior Silicon Photonics solutions, and provides leading bandwidth and throughput for optical connectivity that it said accelerates AI performance on these systems. Nvidia senior vice president of networking Gilad Shainer said the collaboration supports the company's supply chain and solution portfolio and enables the construction and optimization of innovative infrastructures for AI applications at scale. Tower chief executive Russell Ellwanger said the company continues to invest significantly to provide customers with leading performance, scalability and manufacturing capabilities globally.

Market reaction and financial backdrop

Tower shares rose 14.6% on Thursday and Friday on Wall Street after softening earlier in the week, lifting the stock 3.2% over the week to $139 and giving it a record market capitalization of $15.6 billion. The deal disclosure came ahead of Tower's scheduled release of fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 results, due the following Wednesday. Analyst forecasts cited in the reporting point to annual revenue of $1.57 billion and non-GAAP earnings per share of $2.18.

Nvidia's network infrastructure push

The silicon photonics collaboration extends Nvidia's build-out of supporting optical and networking components for AI data centers, complementing its core GPU and accelerator lineup. Shainer's framing of the agreement as a supply-chain and portfolio extension suggests Nvidia is broadening how it secures high-bandwidth optical interconnect capacity. Tower's claim of up to 2x data rates over prior silicon photonics solutions positions the Israeli foundry as a higher-throughput supplier for 1.6 TB/s optical modules, and gives Nvidia a second-source path for the optical engines used across its networking switches.

Competitive pressure on AI hardware peers

Financial commentary in the days surrounding the deal has framed Nvidia's expanding role as a de facto clearing house for AI infrastructure, with one column invoking Jim Cramer's "First National Bank of Nvidia" label and identifying five tech stocks seen as most exposed to Nvidia's grip on the industry. The framing reflects concern that Nvidia's widening component footprint can squeeze adjacent suppliers and customers that depend on its platform standards. Tower's fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 results, scheduled for release the Wednesday following the deal disclosure, are the next confirmed event tied to the collaboration.
