Sales Milestone and Installed-Base Reach

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company confirmed that Pokémon Pokopia has sold more than five million copies worldwide, spanning physical and digital versions, just over four months after its launch on March 5, 2026. Video Game Chronicle tallied that figure against the Switch 2's 23.68 million installed base and concluded that roughly 21% of console owners had purchased the game within about five months of release.
Position Among Switch 2 Titles and Pokémon Spin-Offs
The five-million-unit mark places Pokémon Pokopia as the second-best-selling Switch 2 game to date, trailing Mario Kart World's 15 million units, which had the advantage of being bundled with the console at launch, and ahead of Donkey Kong Bananza's 4.78 million units. VGC noted that the total already ranks Pokopia among the most successful entries in the broader Pokémon spin-off catalogue, while highlighting its significance for developer Koei Tecmo, whose Omega Force team led production under directors previously attached to Dragon Quest Builders 2.
Ongoing Content Roadmap and Edition Format
Nintendo has kept the title active with a free software update adding an underwater Dive move for the player-character Ditto, alongside the paid Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass. The first paid DLC chapter, Bubbly Basin, is available now, introducing an underwater town with additional Pokémon, furniture and recipes. Part 2 is scheduled for late 2026, bringing wearable accessories for Pokémon, and Part 3 is set for release in 2027. GamesBeat also observed that Pokopia shipped as a Game Key Card, essentially a cartridge carrying a download code rather than a full physical release, a format choice that has drawn ongoing attention across Switch 2 software.
Broader Nintendo Backdrop
Separately, GamesReviews.com reported on Nintendo's Q1 FY27 results covering the period ending June 30, 2026, which showed Switch 2 hardware sales of 3.82 million units, a 34.4% year-on-year decline against the console's launch quarter a year earlier. Operating profit nonetheless climbed about 150.5% to ¥142.5 billion (roughly $894 million), lifted by higher digital software sales and a tariff-related cost-of-sales reduction, while Nintendo left its 16.5 million-unit full-year hardware forecast unchanged. In a separate market development, Devdiscourse reported that Nintendo will bring its Switch consoles to Indonesia for the first time in December, marking its entry into Southeast Asia's largest economy.
