VMware AI Factory anchors a software-defined foundation for agentic AI
Broadcom unveiled VMware AI Factory at VMware Explore 2026 in Las Vegas on August 31, 2026, introducing a software-defined foundation within VMware Private AI Cloud designed to help enterprises deploy, govern, and secure AI workloads from bare-metal infrastructure through to live model inference. The company framed the platform as a direct response to enterprise demand for production-grade controls as agentic AI moves from pilots into live operations.
The launch positions VMware AI Factory as the delivery vehicle for a broader set of capabilities tied to the VMware Tanzu Platform, which Broadcom described in its official announcement as the agent platform for VMware Private AI Cloud. By extending the trusted code-to-production simplicity of Tanzu Platform to AI agents, Broadcom is enabling enterprise developers to move beyond siloed AI experiments and into scalable, governed production deployments, the company said.
Hardened sandboxes and AI-ready data target the agent trust problem
Broadcom's August 31 release addresses two sides of agent trust: securing the agent and securing the data. Agents run in hardened sandboxes leveraging services from a curated marketplace, so every agent operates with isolated credentials and explicit connections to the services it uses. Data is governed for access, context, and lineage, so agents reach only approved data, consume efficiently prepared context to improve accuracy and lower token costs, and leave a traceable record of which data was used for each decision.
Specific capabilities introduced in the VMware Tanzu Platform include Hardened Agent Sandboxes that enforce a deny-by-default security containment model to isolate credentials and help prevent prompt injection attacks and unauthorized network access; AI-Ready Data Foundations that process structured and unstructured enterprise data on-site to deliver high-precision context and reduce hallucinations; an Out-of-the-Box Developer Harness with pre-approved skills, step-by-step workflow buildpacks, human-in-the-loop controls, and integrated memory services; a Curated Marketplace that serves as a centralized catalog of approved AI models, tools, and data products; and Auditable Agent Governance that integrates an AI gateway to monitor, rate-limit, and log every agent action for compliance and auditing.
AgentMinder adds identity, policy and runtime controls for AI agents
Alongside the Tanzu update, Broadcom introduced AgentMinder, an enterprise solution for AI agent governance and runtime control that makes it possible for organizations to use AI agents while ensuring they follow company rules and security standards. The product debuted at VMware Explore alongside vDefend, Avi, and TrueSource upgrades, giving AI agents identity, policy, and audit controls while extending open-source supply-chain protections across the enterprise AI stack.
Broadcom said AgentMinder gives enterprises a dedicated governance layer to apply company-specific policies, monitor runtime behavior, and maintain audit trails as autonomous agents query enterprise data and services. The combination is intended to let platform teams support AI applications and related services without requiring additional specialized expertise for each deployment.

Separately, Broadcom is preparing to report earnings after the close on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with coverage flagging high investor expectations and noting that Broadcom shares were approaching a $2 trillion market value. Salesforce and Snowflake are also scheduled to report that week. Broadcom shares had gained about 6% year to date, trailing the S&P 500, according to one analyst note.
