DoorDash reportedly nears an Instacart acquisition

DoorDash is in advanced talks to acquire grocery-delivery platform Instacart in a transaction that could value Instacart at about $17 billion, according to a report published October 26. Another report said the companies were in exclusive negotiations but cautioned that a deal was far from certain and that the talks could fall apart.
No agreement had been announced as of the reporting, and the proposed price and transaction structure had not been determined.
The proposed price remains unsettled
The roughly $17 billion figure described one possible valuation for Instacart. The same reporting also said Instacart was valued at about $12 billion and that a conservative premium could produce a valuation near $15 billion, while noting that the price under discussion could not be determined.
Because no terms were disclosed, the reviewed reporting did not establish the cash payer, cash recipient, or how assets or shares would be transferred. No cash purchase price or completed sale could be confirmed.
A combination would join grocery and restaurant delivery
A transaction would combine Instacart's grocery-centered platform with DoorDash's restaurant-focused delivery business. The potential combination was presented as creating a larger home-delivery platform, but it remained conditional on negotiations producing a final agreement.
DoorDash had previously pursued Instacart in 2021 at a significantly higher valuation. Those talks collapsed over price and antitrust concerns, and reported DoorDash shares slipped on October 26 amid the renewed acquisition talks.
