Nintendo ships Version 13.0.5 as a single-issue online fix

Nintendo has released Version 13.0.5 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the fighting game's first patch since June 2025 and its first new update in roughly 14 months. The official patch notes list a single change under the online category: "Fixed behavior that occurs when invalid data is sent or received in online battles." No character balance adjustments, new stages, or added content accompany the release, and Nintendo has not described the practical effect of the bug on individual matches.

The patch applies to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the original Nintendo Switch and reaches Switch 2 through that console's backwards compatibility with Switch software. Coverage framed the rollout as a narrow backend stability fix rather than the broader Switch 2 performance overhaul some players had speculated about during Nintendo's recent run of updates to older Switch titles.

Replay compatibility flagged as the main player-facing issue

Nintendo used the release to warn that replay compatibility may be affected for files saved under Versions 9.0.0 through 13.0.4, while replays from Version 8.1.0 and earlier are not compatible at all. The recommended workaround for players who want to preserve a replay before updating is to open Vault, select Replays, open Replay Data, and use Convert to Video. After that step, the file is saved as video rather than as a replay, sidestepping the version-handling change introduced in 13.0.5.

The framing of Version 13.0.5 as a replay-handling change alongside a netcode fix has drawn attention because of its timing relative to community discussion of online play. Coverage noted that several Japanese players had expressed frustration about the so-called Delay Mod, an unofficial input-latency modification used in online matches, and that the update's wording about "invalid data" sent and received in battles has been read by some players as a response to that mod's use. Nintendo has not publicly attributed the fix to any specific community tool, and the patch notes describe the issue in general terms rather than naming any third-party software.

Prior patches set the scope for Version 13.0.5

Earlier updates in the 13.0.x line had similarly narrow remits. Version 13.0.1, released December 1, 2021, was described as the final set of fighter adjustments for the game, after which Nintendo said further patches would be issued only to address major bugs or issues. Version 13.0.2 enabled Sora amiibo compatibility, 13.0.3 addressed players not properly receiving Global Smash Power when an opponent quit early, and 13.0.4 fixed compatibility issues with Mii characters on Switch 2 in specific online circumstances. The 13.0.5 release continues that pattern of targeted fixes rather than balance work, and remains in line with Nintendo's stated post-13.0.1 support posture.

Other Nintendo-related developments

Separately, a launch trailer for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault was published to accompany the action RPG sequel's release on Nintendo Switch 2. Elsewhere, a roundup of reporting around a rumored The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake compiled leaked details on a potential release date and a possible Nintendo Direct appearance, though the roundup itself is described as updated and the underlying details remain unconfirmed by Nintendo.
