Screen Daily reported the result broke Nolan's previous second-weekend record, while Variety described it as a "massive" hold for the mythological epic. Yahoo characterized the film's performance as evidence of "staying power" after its opening frame.
Domestic trajectory and milestones
Background coverage shows "The Odyssey" had previously crossed $200 million domestically in eight days, becoming the second-fastest R-rated film to reach that milestone behind only "Deadpool & Wolverine." The film earned $25.9 million on its second Friday, the largest second-Friday gross of Nolan's career and ahead of "Toy Story 5's" second-Friday mark of $21.4 million. Through that point it had collected $225.3 million at the domestic box office and was expected to cross $300 million domestically on Monday.
Global performance
The film had reached $368 million worldwide in eight days of release, split between $225.3 million domestic and $142.7 million international. Tracking at the time suggested the title could approach $400 million globally by early August if momentum held.
Other titles in the marketplace
Pixar's "Toy Story 5" continued its lengthy run with $441.5 million domestic, positioned to overtake "Shrek 2" as the seventh-highest-grossing animated film ever in North America. Universal's "Minions & Monsters" had reached $148.6 million domestically and $370.8 million worldwide, nearing the $150 million North American and $400 million global thresholds.
