Marvel Confirms Black Panther 3 With David Jonsson
Marvel Studios announced at its San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel on July 25 that Ryan Coogler will return to write and direct Black Panther 3, with David Jonsson cast as the grown son of T'Challa and Nakia. The film is set for a December 15, 2028 release and will shoot on 70mm. Jonsson, who broke out with HBO's Industry, Alien: Romulus, and The Long Walk, will take on the Black Panther mantle, with Letitia Wright's Shuri expected to remain in the MCU. Coogler's return comes after the success of Sinners and continues his involvement in the Wakandan corner of the franchise.
Ryan Gosling Rides In as Ghost Rider
Ryan Gosling was revealed as the new Ghost Rider during Marvel's Hall H presentation, marking his first comic-book film role. He will portray Johnny Blaze in a film directed by Shawn Levy, reteaming the duo after their collaboration on Star Wars: Starfighter. The Ghost Rider film is planned for a 2028 release. Onstage, Gosling called the character one he had wanted to play for a long time, while Levy said he and Gosling had discussed Ghost Rider during the Starfighter shoot. The role was previously played by Nicolas Cage in two early-2000s films.
Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Debuts in Hall H
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige screened exclusive new footage of Avengers: Doomsday for Comic-Con attendees, opening with Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., seated on a throne while Sue Storm narrates his backstory. The trailer showcases the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and X-Men together for the first time, including Thor, Captain America, Black Panther, Cyclops, Magneto, and Gambit. Doom is shown raising an army of Sentinel robots and confronting Thor by catching Stormbreaker with one hand. Directed by the Russo Brothers, the film opens December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
The Odyssey Sets New Nolan Box-Office Milestone
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey grossed approximately $265 million in its global opening against a reported $250 million budget, the largest of Nolan's career, tied with The Dark Knight Rises. The film has drawn a 94% critics' score and 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a domestic Tuesday haul of about $21 million surpassing The Dark Knight's $20 million Tuesday in 2008. The Odyssey is positioned to overtake The Dark Knight's domestic total in its second weekend and is approaching the $350 million global mark.
