The launch in China

OnePlus held the OnePlus 16 launch in China on October 12, 2026, with coverage from the event dated October 12–13, 2026. Multiple outlets, including GizChina and India Today, had flagged the launch date in advance, according to the reporting retrieved on October 12, 2026. The headline figures — the 9,000mAh battery, the 185Hz-capable display, and the 200MP main camera — are attributed to OnePlus's own launch materials rather than independent testing. As of the October 13, 2026 reporting, no international press kit, independent hands-on review, or benchmark test had been published.

Display and gaming features

The OnePlus 16 uses a 6.78-inch BOE flat LTPO OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution (2772 × 1272), a 165Hz system refresh rate, and a peak of 185Hz in supported games. Peak brightness is listed at 2,000 nits in high brightness mode and 1,000 nits manually, with 3,840Hz PWM dimming and 1.15mm bezels under what the launch coverage describes as Oppo Crystal Shield glass. OnePlus pairs the chip with what it calls an "E-sports Triple Chip" set — a Super Display Chipset P4, an E-sports Network Chipset G3, and a Lingxi Touch Chipset T3 — alongside a 6,428mm² vapor chamber and an 800Hz gyroscope. The company says native 185Hz and 185fps play work in titles including Game for Peace, Valorant Mobile, Arena Breakout, and Naruto Mobile.

Chip, battery, and cameras

The chip is identified across coverage as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 on a 2nm process, paired with Adreno 850 graphics, LPDDR5X Ultra RAM, and UFS 4.1 storage. The same chip also appears in some reports under the names Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and it is unclear whether those labels refer to the same chip or different tiers. The 9,000mAh silicon-carbon "Glacier" battery is up from 7,300mAh on the OnePlus 15; charging is listed at 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 27W wired reverse, with bypass charging that powers the phone directly during play. Wired charging has dropped from 120W on the OnePlus 15, according to the coverage. The rear camera setup pairs a 200MP Samsung HPE main sensor (1/1.4-inch, OIS) with a 50MP ultra-wide and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto; the front camera is a 50MP Samsung JN5. Video capture is listed up to 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps with Dolby Vision.

China pricing and availability

Official list prices in China start at CNY 5,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model and rise to CNY 8,499 for the 16GB + 1TB version. A first-sale promotional price of CNY 5,699 and a CNY 5,199 subsidized price have also been reported, and some outlets have quoted the lower promotional figure as the starting price. The 12GB + 512GB and 16GB + 512GB variants are listed at CNY 6,799 and CNY 7,499 respectively. Most reports, including BigGo Finance and My Mobile India, put first sales at 10:00 AM China time on October 13 through the Oppo online store, with a special pricing window running from October 12 to November 13; one outlet, 91mobiles, says open sales begin October 31. The base price is roughly 50% higher than the OnePlus 15's CNY 3,999 China launch price, with the coverage attributing part of the rise to industry-wide memory cost increases. Colors listed in the coverage are Tomorrow's Starlight (also rendered Tomorrow's Star), Martian Masterpiece, and Dark Forest.

Global and India release status

OnePlus has not announced a global or India launch. Smartprix reports no global launch has been announced and does not expect the standard OnePlus 16 to reach India, while Gizchina references reports of a possible November global launch that OnePlus has not confirmed. A more recent tip cited in the coverage says OnePlus is preparing two flagships for India in December 2026 or January 2027, with a OnePlus 16R "very likely" and the OnePlus 16 only "guessed"; all of this remains unconfirmed. Any rupee figures circulated alongside the China prices are simple currency conversions and do not reflect Indian pricing. iQOO has said its iQOO 16 will come to India, and the OnePlus 16 would face it directly if it does launch there.
