Gold rose more than 1% on July 27, 2026 after a pause in US-Iran hostilities pulled oil prices lower and eased fears of prolonged high interest rates. Spot gold climbed 1.3% to $4,103.99 per ounce by 0058 GMT, while US gold futures for August delivery gained 0.9% to $4,106.10. Later in the session, other outlets reported spot gold at $4,110.56 per ounce with US futures at $4,112.10, reflecting a similar magnitude of gains.

Geopolitical trigger and oil decline

The rally was triggered by a reported pause in US strikes on Iran after advisers to President Donald Trump warned that the military was running out of viable targets and raised concerns about depleting US munitions stockpiles. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Iran would halt its own attacks as long as Washington did the same. Oil prices tumbled as much as 7%, with US WTI crude falling about 4% to around $84 a barrel and Brent crude down roughly 4.86% to $92. Lower energy costs helped ease inflation concerns, while a weaker US dollar and softer 10-year Treasury yields provided additional support for bullion.

Other precious metals follow gold higher

The move extended across the precious metals complex. Spot silver gained 2.7% to $59.74 per ounce, building on a recent breakout above key resistance. Platinum climbed 2% to $1,619.75 and palladium rose 2.3% to $1,271.93. COMEX gold speculators raised their net long positions by 4,438 contracts to 123,586 in the week to July 21, according to CFTC data, indicating bullish positioning ahead of the surge. Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade, said gold remained "constructively bullish" longer term but warned the path would stay volatile and depend on geopolitical headlines until a more durable peace takes hold.

Regional prices track the global surge

Domestic markets followed international rates higher. In India, gold of 99.9% purity jumped Rs 2,440 to Rs 149,640 per 10 grams, while silver climbed Rs 5,300 to Rs 230,000 per kg, according to the All India Sarafa Association. In Pakistan, 24-karat gold rose Rs 4,000 to Rs 431,736 per tola, with silver touching a record Rs 6,397 per tola. Bangladesh's Bajus raised 22-karat gold by Tk 2,216 to Tk 223,074 per bhori. Vietnam's Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar price gained 1.06% to VND 143 million per tael, and Indonesia's Antam gold rose IDR 10,000 to IDR 2,622,000 per gram, with buyback at IDR 2,370,000.

Fed decision and rate expectations

Attention now turns to the US Federal Reserve's policy decision expected later this week. The Fed is widely expected to keep rates unchanged, but traders are still pricing roughly an 80% chance of a rate hike in September, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. Whether the truce holds long enough to sustain the rally remains the key uncertainty; if fighting resumes and oil prices reverse, inflation concerns and rate expectations could shift again.
