Outside Lands 2026 wrapped its three-day run in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park with a series of unannounced performances across the weekend of Aug. 8–9. Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Leon Bridges was added to the bill less than an hour before taking the Duboce Triangle stage at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, billed as the festival's second and final surprise performer. The pattern of late additions extended to the headliners themselves: Charli XCX, who headlined Friday night at the San Francisco festival, returned to the grounds on Saturday to join the Strokes during their closing headlining set.

Cross-album banter and a live collaboration

During the Strokes' Saturday set, frontman Julian Casablancas introduced Charli XCX by referencing the near-simultaneous July release of the Strokes' "Reality Awaits" and Charli's "Music, Fashion, Film." Casablancas told the crowd the two artists had staged a friendly album-sales contest, conceding, "We had a great battle. Congratulations, you defeated us in the album sales. You're new queen of everything, Charli XCX." The pair then launched into "Take It or Leave It," the closing track from the Strokes' 2001 debut "Is This It," with Casablancas repeating afterward, "Yep, she won. She won by a lot." The collaboration extended an existing tie between the two: Casablancas had previously featured on a reworking of "Mean Girls" for Charli's remix album "Brat and It's Completely Different but Also Still Brat."
