Marika Hackman announced her fifth studio album, 'False Dogs', on October 14, 2026. The record is scheduled for release on February 19, 2027 via Chrysalis Records. Clash Magazine and NME both reported the announcement as a 12-track collection, with the NME listing opening track '33' and closing track 'Crimson'. The release arrives almost three years after Hackman's fourth studio album, 'Big Sigh', which came out in January 2024.

Recording process and collaborators

Hackman composed 'False Dogs' entirely herself and recorded it initially at her East London studio before a ten-day period at Big Jelly Studios in Ramsgate, according to both outlets. Previous collaborator Charlie Andrew and Polly Mackey (Art School Girlfriend), Hackman's wife, assisted at Big Jelly Studios. NME noted that Hackman plays almost every instrument on the record, including guitars, piano, drums, bass, mandolin and synth, and that field recordings of the Kent coast appear across the album.

Lead single '33' and themes

Alongside the announcement, Hackman released opening track '33', described by Clash Magazine as string-laden and by NME as a single addressing nostalgia. NME quoted Hackman as saying of the track: "'33' grapples with the dull ache of nostalgia, the apprehension of the future and the celebration of the moments in between – keep pushing, it's worth it." Both outlets reported that the song features a children's choir and explores the passage of time from age 17 into her thirties. Clash Magazine also quoted Hackman saying: "I think this truly is the first record that I have fully inhabited my creative skin right up to its edges."

2027 UK and European tour

Hackman announced what both outlets called her largest UK and European tour to date. The dates begin at London's Royal Festival Hall in late February 2027, according to NME's detailed itinerary. After the UK dates, the tour continues across Europe with stops in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Copenhagen and Stockholm. NME reported that pre-sale tickets are scheduled to go live on October 22 at 10am BST, with general on-sale the following day, October 23, at 10am BST.

Album tracklist

NME published the full 12-song tracklist for 'False Dogs': '33', 'Close To Me', 'I'm Good', 'Handsome', 'The Blows', 'Be Surprised', 'Everything You Wanted', 'Ha Happy', 'Half Painted Dog', 'Hello Sunshine', 'Lying Down' and 'Crimson'. The outlet did not provide writing credits beyond Hackman's self-composed role.

Next milestone

The next verifiable milestone is the scheduled general on-sale of tour tickets on October 23, 2026 at 10am BST, ahead of the album's release on February 19, 2027.
