Fiji's Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka publicly backed the McDonald's Fijian Drua Women as they prepare for Saturday's Super Rugby Women's grand final, telling local media he will attend the match. The Drua face the NSW Waratahs at 4R Stadium in Ba, the franchise's first home Super W final. Captain Bitala Tawake urged fans to fill the ground and "create history together." Springboks balance injury returns ahead of Argentina Test

South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus named a 43-man Springbok squad to assemble in Johannesburg ahead of a Test against Argentina in Buenos Aires on 8 August and the four-match Rugby's Greatest Rivalry series against New Zealand. Landmark brain injury lawsuit risks collapse in London court

A High Court case in London brought by hundreds of former rugby players alleging governing bodies breached their duty of care to protect against brain injury is at risk of collapse. The presiding judge is considering whether to strike out 95 percent of the first batch of 561 claimants over alleged failures to disclose neurological testing documents. Senior Master Jeremy Cook faulted the claimants' lawyer Richard Boardman of Rylands Garth rather than the players themselves; Boardman notified the court he will "come off the record" after the claimants unanimously terminated their dealings with the firm. The case targets World Rugby, the Welsh Rugby Union, England's Rugby Football Union, the Rugby Football League and the British Amateur Rugby League Association, each of which denies wrongdoing. Former England World Cup winners Steve Thompson, Mark Regan and Phil Vickery and former Wales internationals Alix Popham, Colin Charvis, Gavin Henson, Ryan Jones and Lee Byrne are among the named claimants.
