Jalen Brunson Lands Guest Role on Law & Order: SVU

NBC Confirms Brunson's SVU Guest Spot

NBC confirmed on Thursday that New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson will guest star in the fifth episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's 28th season, scheduled for November 5 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The network has not disclosed Brunson's character or role. NBC's official Law & Order account announced the booking with the post: "When the plans finally make it out of the group chat."

The booking came three months after Brunson led the Knicks to their first NBA championship since 1973. He was named Finals MVP after New York closed out the San Antonio Spurs in five games.

How the Wish Began

Brunson first floated the idea in the immediate aftermath of the title win, telling reporters what he wanted to do next: "Try to get on SVU." The connection traces back to his childhood. Brunson grew up watching the show with his father, Rick Brunson, a former Knick and current team assistant, because of his father's habit of leaving it on. "You just hear the iconic 'dun-dun' all the time in the house," Brunson said on The Roommates Show. He has called Mariska Hargitay, who plays Capt. Olivia Benson, his favorite celebrity Knicks fan.

Hargitay attended Game 4 of the Finals at Madison Square Garden, when the Knicks erased a 29-point deficit to beat San Antonio 107-106, and hugged Brunson on the court after the game. She later rode on his championship parade bus. In August, Variety asked whether Brunson was getting a role on the show. "It's definitely happening," Hargitay answered. "He's kind of magnificent that way."

Filming in Brooklyn

Brunson filmed his episode on the Brooklyn set of Law & Order: SVU with Hargitay. Hargitay posted a group photo from the shoot on September 16, showing Brunson standing with members of the cast and crew wearing a prop NYPD badge clipped to his shirt. She captioned it: "Now introducing YOUR 2026 New York Knicks starting lineup!!!"

The role also drew a stamp of approval from Christopher Meloni, Hargitay's longtime co-star as Det. Elliot Stabler, who signed off on the series in June. "I don't know if you heard, but he's the world champion," Meloni told TMZ. "He can do whatever the hell he wants." When pressed on whether Brunson had a real chance, Meloni added, "He's got the force of will."

A Packed Offseason Schedule

The November 5 air date does not conflict with a Knicks game. Brunson hosts Saturday Night Live on September 26 with musical guest Katseye, joining a list of basketball players to host the show that includes Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James. He had earlier appeared in the prerecorded opening of the Emmy Awards, which Hargitay hosted.

Law & Order: SVU returns October 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, and the Knicks open their regular season on October 20 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Brunson's SVU episode follows on November 5.
