Pennsylvania-based Hunt Auctions announced on Monday, October 12, 2026, a private treaty sale of a game-worn, autographed Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls road jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals for $14,000,000. The auction house called it the highest price ever paid for a piece of basketball memorabilia. The buyer was identified as Miami real estate investor Ron Firman.
Game 2 provenance and photomatching
The red jersey is the one Jordan wore in Game 2 against the Utah Jazz on June 5, 1998, at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Jordan scored a game-high 37 points in the Bulls' 93-88 victory that evened the series at one game apiece; Chicago went on to win the series in six games for Jordan's sixth and final NBA title. The jersey was conclusively photomatched to that game by MeiGray Authentication and SIA Authentication and bears an Upper Deck-authenticated Jordan autograph.
How it compares with prior Jordan and baseball sales
Hunt Auctions said the $14 million figure is the second-highest known price for any game-worn jersey, behind the $24.12 million paid in 2024 for the Babe Ruth jersey worn during his "called shot" home run in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series. The Game 2 jersey also tops the $12,260,000 (about $12.3 million) realized by a Jordan home jersey from Game 3 of the same 1998 Finals that sold at a September 29, 2026 auction, and exceeds the roughly $10.1 million paid in 2022 for the Game 1 road jersey.
Auction house framing and ownership trail
Hunt Auctions president David Hunt said the result elevates Jordan within the memorabilia market to "an elite asset class more typically reserved for iconic works of art." According to the auction house, the jersey was originally purchased from the Chicago Bulls by a collector, with a 2003 letter from then-Bulls Director of Community Relations Jeff Schultz vouching for its authenticity. Hunt said the garment "has remained within a succinct chain of custody having only changed hands once from the original purchaser" before reaching Firman.
Next verifiable milestone
The next comparable data point in the 1998 Finals jersey market would be any future public offering of the Game 6 red road jersey from the clinching contest, the only remaining 1998 Finals jersey not previously sold at auction, according to Hunt Auctions.
