Anthropic slips its timeline as $2 trillion talk hangs over the offering

Anthropic has pushed its public prospectus into late September and a marketing roadshow to mid-October at the earliest, according to people familiar with the timing, with a listing now expected to land in the days before the U.S. midterm elections in November. Ainvest reports that the prospectus that was due "next week" is now expected in late September, and that the company is still finalizing a $15 billion revolving credit facility before analysts can meet with management. Yahoo Finance separately notes that Anthropic could go public at a $2 trillion valuation, a level investors have floated that would surpass SpaceX's $1.77 trillion June listing. Anthropic representatives declined to comment on a date, and the company has not set a share count or a price, with people close to the process saying the calendar can still move.

What the math behind a $2 trillion listing would require

Ainvest frames the valuation as the central test for the deal. The publication writes that the figure would demand annual net profits of $59 billion to $79 billion, roughly 40 times Anthropic's current annualized adjusted profit of about $2.2 billion, and it argues that earnings justification is likely delayed until 2028 to 2030. The same outlet points to a separate structural feature: unlike SpaceX's IPO, Anthropic plans to let shareholders sell shares during the offering, which it says will create immediate selling pressure. Anthropic is a public benefit corporation founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, and other former OpenAI researchers, a status that restricts military and surveillance applications and, Ainvest writes, limits potential revenue streams compared with competitors.

Revenue and profit the company has actually booked

Ainvest details Anthropic's preliminary Q2 2026 revenue of more than $11.5 billion, up from $4.73 billion in Q1, with an annualized revenue run rate that had crossed $65 billion by late July. Enterprise API usage accounts for 80% to 85% of total revenue, and the agentic coding product Claude Code alone contributed roughly $8 billion in Q2, Ainvest reports. The same outlet says Anthropic surpassed OpenAI in quarterly revenue for the first time in Q2, pulling ahead of the $6.7 billion OpenAI generated that quarter, and posted positive adjusted operating income of about $559 million on $11.5 billion in revenue.

Other developments

Separately, Seeking Alpha reports that Anthropic is expected to start marketing its IPO in mid-October at the earliest, characterizing the shift as a slight delay compared with prior plans.

Next verifiable milestone

The next verifiable milestone is the filing of Anthropic's public prospectus in late September, followed by the start of the investor roadshow in mid-October and a potential listing in the days before the November U.S. midterm elections.
