Show composition while keeping the total visible
Enter one category and one positive value per line, separated by the final comma on that line. The tool accepts two to twelve rows and labels of up to twenty-four characters so text remains readable in the preview and exported file. A title should state what is being measured and, when relevant, the period or unit. “Monthly support requests, January–June 2026” is more informative than “Results.” Review spelling and units before downloading because the chart faithfully visualizes the supplied data; it cannot detect a mislabeled number.
The parser rejects empty or oversized labels, non-finite numbers, zero or negative values, values above one trillion, and totals that cannot be represented safely. This deliberate boundary makes the three chart tools suitable for straightforward category comparisons. It does not silently drop a malformed row or turn a missing value into zero. If the subject requires negative values, uncertainty bands, several series, or a continuous axis, use a spreadsheet or statistical package that exposes those structures directly.
Accessible output and honest labels
The exported SVG contains a title and text description that list the chart values. Visible labels remain part of the vector artwork, and the surrounding page provides the same data as ordinary text. Color is never the only source of meaning: bars or slices are paired with category names and numeric values or percentages. The palette is intentionally restrained so the chart remains usable in an editorial page, report, or presentation without implying a brand identity.
Accessibility still depends on where the chart is published. Add nearby prose that explains the main point, retain alternative text, and avoid using an image as the only record of important data. Screen-reader behavior for standalone SVG files varies between applications. A downloadable chart can support communication, but it does not replace a properly marked-up data table when readers need exact values, sorting, filtering, or comparison across many observations.
SVG and PNG downloads
SVG is the preferred editable output. It is a text-based vector format, so lines, shapes, and labels stay crisp when the file is enlarged. The PNG option rasterizes that SVG at a fixed high resolution for slide decks, messaging apps, and systems that do not accept vector files. Both files are generated locally from the same reviewed data and title. The original input remains available in the workspace until it is reset or the page is closed.
Font rendering can differ after an SVG is opened in another application because the file uses common system fonts rather than embedding a proprietary font. A PNG preserves the rendered appearance but cannot be edited as separate shapes. Open the exported file once before distributing it, especially when labels are long. The download is a communication asset, not evidence that the source data is complete, current, statistically significant, or collected fairly.
Choose the chart by the question
Use a bar chart when the main task is comparing category magnitudes. Length along a shared baseline is generally easier to compare than slice angle, and horizontal bars leave useful room for English labels. Use a pie or donut chart only when every row is a non-overlapping part of one meaningful total. If categories overlap, come from different denominators, or do not add to a whole, a circular chart can communicate a false relationship even when its arithmetic is correct.
Keep the number of categories small and avoid decorating the chart with three-dimensional effects. Sort bars when rank is the story, or preserve a meaningful sequence such as months when order carries information. For a pie or donut, combine genuinely minor categories only if the combined label remains honest. A chart should make the data easier to inspect, not hide uncertainty or manufacture drama through color, scale, or selective omission.
