In the central district of Damascus, a tall white tower carries one of the city's most familiar names. TheFour Seasons Hotelrises 82 meters into the Damascus skyline, standing near the Barada River on Shukri Al Quatli Street. Its address places it squarely in the heart of the Syrian capital, in the Haboubi Neighborhood of the Al-Muhajerin Municipality.

The building commands attention from the street, framed by views toward the river it overlooks. Travelers and locals alike recognize it as one of the central district's defining silhouettes.

From Groundbreaking to Grand Opening

Construction on the property began in 2001, with Fouad Takla serving as main contractor for what would become a 23-floor tower. The hotel opened in 2005, the result of a partnership between Samer Foz and the Syrian Ministry of Tourism. Its mid-2000s debut made it one of the newer large-scale hotel developments in central Damascus at the time.

The Four Seasons Name and the 2019 Split

For years, the building operated as part of the international Four Seasons Hotels chain. That arrangement ended on June 19, 2019, when Four Seasons Hotels severed its management contract, citing US sanctions connected to Foz.

Despite the split, the property has continued to operate using the Four Seasons name and logo. It is no longer recognized as part of the Four Seasons chain, but the familiar branding remains visible on the building.

A Base for the United Nations During the Civil War

During the Syrian civil war, the United Nations and several of its agencies relied on this property in an unusual way. The hotel held the best security rating by UN standards in Damascus, and UN agencies used it for their principal residences and offices during that period. That status set the property apart from other lodging options in the city and gave it a distinctive role on the international stage.

Some details about this property can change over time, so it is worth checking current information before arranging a visit.
