Altria Group’s third-quarter 2026 results showed the cigarette business continuing to generate pricing power despite falling volumes, supporting the company’s decision to raise full-year adjusted earnings guidance. The earnings call focused on its 2026 third-quarter and first-nine-month results, with the reviewed coverage reporting stronger performance and an improved outlook.

The company’s cigarette portfolio remained the central earnings engine. BigGo Finance reported adjusted diluted EPS of $1.38 for Q3 2026, up 4.8% year over year, and adjusted OCI of $3.1 billion, up 3.9%, with an adjusted OCI margin of 64.5%. Price realization rose 4.4%, while reported domestic cigarette volumes declined 2.9% and adjusted cigarette volumes fell 4%, a slightly better performance than the estimated 5% industry decline.

Marlboro’s pricing strategy supported share

The reported results attribute the cigarette performance to PM USA’s portfolio approach, combining Marlboro with the discount Basic brand. Marlboro’s premium-segment share reached 60%, up 0.3 percentage points year over year, while Basic gained 1.8 percentage points of retail share.

Marlboro Cowboy Cut was described as a value-oriented extension of the premium brand, available in roughly 100,000 stores covering about 75% of cigarette volume. Management described a playbook in which Marlboro Special Select and Marlboro Black had introductory pricing before PM USA took pricing or margin up over those products. The disclosure supports a bounded interpretation that Altria is using brand segmentation and staged pricing to retain premium-segment share while consumers face economic pressure.

Guidance rose as smoke-free growth remained uneven

Altria raised full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $5.66–$5.74, representing expected growth of 4.5%–6% from a 2025 adjusted EPS base of $5.42. The range was above the 2.5%–5% growth outlook management had set at the beginning of the year. Mancuso attributed the increase to strong performance through the first nine months and confidence in the full-year plan.

The broader smoke-free portfolio did not yet match the cigarette business’s momentum. Adjusted oral cigarette income fell 3.7% to $443 million as lower moist smokeless volumes offset 13.3% growth in on! shipments to 47.8 million cans. on! retail share reached 8.3%, up 0.1 percentage point year over year but down 0.3 points sequentially amid intense competition.

Altria also announced its 61st dividend increase in 57 years, raising the quarterly dividend 4.7% to $1.11 per share, and expanded its share-repurchase program by $1 billion through December 2027. The reviewed earnings-call summary also reported $191 million of ABI adjusted equity earnings, up 21.7%, in the quarter.

The next test is sustained volume resilience

The immediate test is whether Altria can maintain pricing-led performance while domestic cigarette volumes continue declining. The reviewed reporting does not establish a specific timetable for that outcome. Investors will also need further disclosure on the return timing of NJOY ACE and the gap between on! shipment growth and scanner data, both of which were raised as questions on the call.
