American Airlines has unveiled its first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, introducing a premium-heavy cabin layout that the carrier describes as offering the most premium seats of any aircraft operated by a U.S. airline. The aircraft features 144 premium seats, headlined by 70 Flagship Suite seats equipped with privacy doors, expanded personal storage and a chaise lounge seating position.

Flagship Suite and premium-cabin configuration

Beyond the Flagship Suite product, the retrofitted 777-300ER includes 44 Premium Economy seats with sculpted headrests, adjustable calf and foot rests, and enhanced storage, plus 30 extra-legroom Main Cabin Extra seats. American said the new interiors carry forward design elements previously introduced on its premium-configured Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR, including updated textures, lighting and functional comfort details intended to improve the long-haul experience.

Quote from American's commercial leadership

"Our Flagship aircraft represents the next evolution of premium travel at American," said Nat Pieper, American's Chief Commercial Officer. "With elegantly designed interiors and spacious premium seating, the Boeing 777-300ER reflects our continued commitment to creating a travel experience around what customers value most."

Premium service chain tied to the aircraft

American is framing the 777-300ER as more than a seat refresh, linking the new cabin to a broader premium journey that includes priority airport services, Flagship lounges and dining, premium amenities and enhanced bedding. The 777-300ER fleet of 20 aircraft operates on American's most popular long-haul routes, including London, Tokyo, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Sydney, giving the carrier its largest premium-seat footprint across those long-haul markets.

Reported rollout and next milestones

The carrier has not publicly detailed the full retrofit timeline for the remaining 777-300ERs or named the first revenue route for the newly configured jet. Subsequent disclosures from American, including route assignments and rollout pace for the remaining 19 aircraft in the fleet, are the next verifiable milestones for the program.
